π Definition
A burn is tissue damage caused by heat, chemicals, electricity, or radiation.
π§ Types of Burns (By Depth)
π’ 1st Degree (Superficial)
Affects epidermis only
Red, dry, painful
No blisters
Heals in 3–7 days
π‘ 2nd Degree (Partial Thickness)
Affects epidermis + dermis
Blisters present
Moist, very painful
Heals in 2–3 weeks
π΄ 3rd Degree (Full Thickness)
Destroys all skin layers
White/charred, leathery
No pain (nerve damage)
Requires skin graft
π Rule of 9s (Burn Area Calculation)
Head & neck = 9%
Each arm = 9%
Each leg = 18%
Front torso = 18%
Back torso = 18%
Perineum = 1%
π First Aid Management
Cool burn with running water (10–20 min)
Remove tight items (rings, clothes)
Cover with clean sterile cloth
❌ Do NOT apply ice, butter, toothpaste
Seek medical help if severe
π Nursing Management
Maintain Airway, Breathing, Circulation (ABC)
Fluid resuscitation (IV fluids)
Pain management
Prevent infection (aseptic care)
Monitor urine output
